Analog sensors
Analog sensors produce a continuous signal level that varies proportionally to the physical property they measure. For example, light sensors, "Photoresistors", detect whether a light is on or off and compare the relative light levels throughout the day.
Digital Sensors
Digital sensors produce a discrete voltage signal that has only two states: high or low. For example, a magnetic door sensor uses a reed switch and magnet. When the door is closed, the magnet keeps the reed switch circuit closed. When the door opens and the magnet is removed, the reed switch circuit opens, triggering an alert or alarm.
